An epilogue is a section of writing at the end of a book that takes place outside of the setting, perspective, or frame of the story. It’s often intended to provide closure and resolution by explaining what happens after the main narrative arc has come to an end. As it’s in the main body of the text, the epilogue is still part of the story.

It’s also one of those literary devices whose necessity is often debated — along with its cousin, the prologue, which typically stands on the other side of the book (the start). If you write a strong ending to a story, should there really be anything left to say? Well, like a good digestif, an epilogue can serve as a satisfying close to a story — one that gives you a moment to reflect on everything you just consumed. It shouldn’t replace the novel's ending but merely provide a grace note for the story to close on (typically).

An Epilogue addresses how the book came to be, the inspiration for the story, the journey of its development, etc. Sometimes it’s written by the author, and sometimes it’s written by a public figure with some connection to the story or subject matter, but it’s never part of the story itself.

Question: Why do you think M.T. Anderson provided an Epilogue at the beginning of the novel and not the end (where an Epilogue exists traditionally?)

Review of Epilogue meaning -

Possibilities: Review Jaz's entry. Assign 9.

Additional Themes:

Apathy (Casual as birds) is the emotion that corporations aim to produce in their consumers, and as a result it has become the default emotional state of the characters in Feed.

Apathy Definition: lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern.

Overall: Novel focus: Commentary on consumerism and technology with YA focus/lens via a story of coming of age, young love, naivety re: the future etc.
